15 “TwAwesome” Tools for Adding Value to Your Twitter Strategy

Many of you are familiar with Twitter, the popular microblogging site that answers the simple question, “What are you doing?” and may already be users, either trying to figure out Twitter’s value or how to get more mileage out of your current Twitter strategy. I’ve been doing some research lately on different Twitter tools and below are a few of the tools I’m using to craft a stronger Twitter presence for myself and my business. This is by no means an exhaustive list of Twitter resources and it doesn’t even touch on all the desktop and mobile applications, but it does give you an idea of some of the tools you can use to begin to build a more effective and efficient online presence using Twitter.
Research
Twitter Search: search.twitter.com It’s like Google for Twitter. Put in any search term and see what’s being discussed on Twitter.
Tweetscan: www.tweetscan.com Works like Google alerts and searches tweets based on keywords.
Twist: twist.flaptor.com Allows you to view popular trends discussed on Twitter or show most recent tweets on a particular topic.
Twubble: www.crazybob.org/twubble/ Lets you search who your friends are following and pick out others you may want to follow.
Twemes: www.twemes.com Follows tweets that have embedded tags that start with a # character. This is particularly useful for keeping up with real-time activities associated with a live event such as a conference.
Twitterholic: www.twitterholic.com Lists the top 100 Twitterers based on number of followers.
These tools can help you locate other like-minded people who are discussing topics that interest you and your readers. They can also help you come up with content for your own tweets and find more people to follow and build community with.
Organization/Time Management
Tweetake: www.tweetake.com Allows you to backup your Twitter followers, favorites, direct messages, friends, and tweets.
My Tweeple: www.mytweeple.com Lets you alphabetize and manage all your followers. You can easily locate and follow others and block followers.
TwitterSnooze: www.twittersnooze.com Lets you temporarily block tweets on your ÒverboseÓ Twitter friends.
TweetLater: www.tweetlater.com Lets you schedule tweets for future release, automatically follow new users, and send automated thank-you notes to your new followers.
Twitsay: www.twitsay.com Lets you leave a voice message that is converted into a tweet.
Twitter can get very crowded and very noisy very quickly. These tools are great for creating efficiencies and ensuring that you are using Twitter to optimize its value rather than rob you of critical work time.
PR & Branding
Twitzu: www.twitzu.com Lets you publicize events or contests and blast the message out to your followers.
TweetMyBlog: www.tweetmyblog.com Twitter plug-in for Wordpress that automatically posts to Twitter when you update your blog.
TwitterCard: www.twittercard.com A Twitter widget that acts as your Twitter business card on your website.
TwitThis: www.twitthis.com Makes it easy for people to send Twitter messages about your blog post or website by converting the URL to a shorter URL using Tiny URL.
Most of us are using Twitter to promote our businesses. These tools help get the word out in an efficient and meaningful way.
